This is one of our favourite stories from last year that we just had to share again. Talk about positive attitude, determination and passion...
A junior rider named Lauren Dolan from Great Britain crashed during her junior women's time trial. She suffered lacerations to her leg, but got back on a replacement bike to finish with a respectable time!
Lauren was one of the early starters, and posted a quick time through the first intermediate time check whilst she battled with the elements. However, after reportedly hitting a pothole at the mid-way point of the 16.1-kilometre course she fell heavily on the course around Bergen, Norway.
She lacerated her thigh and knee and sustaining road rash which was caused from sliding down. Lauren got up and then completed the course on a road bike as her time trial machine was too damaged to ride.
Incredibly, she was actually only 2 minutes and 24 seconds down on the eventual winner who was from Italy. However until the crash it looked like Lauren was on for a top 10 finish in the ICU Junior World Championships.
She was taken to the local hospital in Bergen to recover from her injuries. Here she was treated by doctors, surgeons and nurses.
She was unable to compete in Fridays race but a huge well done for incredible resilience, determination and mental attitude! A champion in the making.
